![]() ☄ First Impressions ♚ VISUAL: Before noting anything else, Kaori Yuki's art style is not terribly consistent, particularly since there was such a big timeskip between the first and final parts of the series. One of these inconsistencies is in his height--since he is generally said to be petite and the average height for an adult man in his time period is about 5'5, I guess him to be at about 5'3 with his shoes off, and he possibly wears lifts and thick soles to appear taller if he wants to. He is also slim and androgynously beautiful, with sharp, but fine-boned features and an elegant, haughty awareness of his own attractiveness. Another inconsistency is the color of his hair, drawn as ranging from bright bright red to almost black; I split the difference and call it dark auburn. He has luminous light green eyes, with a gold cast, which in this universe is a result of incest in his genetics. He is also very pale and at first glance can look sickly because he is so wan and small, but he has a surprisingly good constitution and is mostly physically fit. His back is heavily scarred from a whip, but he goes to great lengths to hide it and will never take off his shirt around anyone but Riff. He does, however, sleep naked. ♚ FASHION: Cain dresses in overt, extravagantly gothic clothes, usually black, although not always. He favors formal dress, and often wears suits and waistcoats. He lets his hair grow longer than is strictly socially acceptable, but occasionally slicks it back from his face during particularly fancy affairs. The state of his clothes is dependent directly on whether or not he has Riff with him--if he is, his clothes are impeccably pressed, fastened and cared for; if not, he is wrinkled and somewhat clumsily put-together, as he doesn't know how to do his own laundry and is out of practice dressing himself. He tore an earring from his left earlobe, which is now split because of it. ♚ DEMEANOUR: Cain is arrogant, but not to the point of narcissism, and he holds himself with the grace that is befitting a man of his noble status. He is intensely proud and very aware of his body language, and tailors it specifically to his current objective. He appears to be taller than he is, because his presence is so very large--he is charming, but somewhat foreboding as well. His reputation precedes him, and he seems not only to be aware of the fear he strikes into the hearts of the people who learn of his family's curse, but to enjoy the intimidation. He is also a massive flirt, and will hit on anything in a dress, but with the same decorum he uses in all aspects of life. ♚ AURAL: His voice is low--I estimate about a bass-baritone. It is stated he is small and effeminate enough to pass for a woman, until he speaks and his deep voice gives him away. He is voiced in the drama CD by Hideo Ishikawa, who also voices Itachi in Naruto; this would give him a low range and a dark, resonant timbre, which is perfect. He speaks in an aristocratic English accent, sharp and concise, and tends to use larger words. ♚ OLFACTORY: Cain generally smells good, since he enjoys bathing (less so without his ♚ MENTAL INFORMATION: Cain is incredibly smart--even genius level. He also hides a childhood of horrific abuse. ♚ MAGICAL INFORMATION: He is stated to have latent psychic abilites--what these are specifically is never said, but they make him susceptible to becoming possessed by spirits. He also seems to speak to the dead while dreaming. ☄ OOC ♚ BACKTAGGING: Always!! ♚ FOURTHWALLING: I don't think it's very likely to come up. I'd rather judge it on a case by case basis, although I generally don't mind too much. ♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Don't touch his back if you value whatever body part you're touching him with. Otherwise, Cain is rather like a cat in his physical affection--annoying when he wants it, all but vicious when he doesn't. ♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Talk to me before maiming or killing him, and no burns or deep abrasions without warning. Otherwise, if you're not sure, ask, but I'm pretty flexible. ♚ RELATIONSHIPS: I'm completely down for shipping, but be aware that Cain has a canon soulmate, although they aren't anywhere near monogamous. He tends to flirt with women who are much less intelligent than he is, although he has fallen in love with women he considered to be his equal; he is very afraid of love because he's convinced his love gets people killed (and it sort of does, to be honest), so he isn't seeking anything requiring more commitment than a free evening. He is likely to be melodramatic about his relationship with Riff, but Riff never expected fidelity from him and Cain would feel much worse about cheating emotionally. It's possible he could develop a genuine love for someone else, as he has in the past even as tied to Riff as he was, but he will likely categorize it differently and any potential suitors will have to put up with the presence of a ghost in their relationship. ☄ Permissions ♚ SPOILERS: So at the canon point I am playing him from, Cain's thoughts and probably dialogue are going to be full of spoilers from volume six of Godchild through to the end of the series, and there isn't really a way to play him from this canonpoint without being rather spoilery. Do you want me to avoid tagging you because of this? ♚ OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT: Firstly, Cain comes from a Kaori Yuki manga--for those of you familiar with her work, you know that means it's full to the brim with really awful, potentially triggery stuff, including but not limited to: -Rape -Incest -Child abuse (physical and emotional) -Religious motifs/bastardization of such -The Occult -Descriptions of gory violence including death and harm to eyes -Some racism/classism/sexism/assorted other 'ism's, simply because we're dealing with an aristocrat in the 19th century and his morality reflects the time. Cain's specific brand is never hostile--the most that's likely to come up is fascination with/misconceptions about cultures other than the UK. He has been known to feign racial objectification for the purposes of furthering a case, and will probably try to maintain that facade initially. Is any of this an issue for you? Please let me know, so that I can avoid whatever topics you need me to. ♚ TRANSLATION FUCKERY: Secondly, a note on spellings: The Shojo Beat translation of this series is iffy, so I default to spellings that don't match up with what's in the manga: -Jezebel, in place of Jizabel -Michaela, in place of Mikaila -Merryweather, in place of Mary Weather / Merry in place of Mary Does this bug you? ♚ SPOILERS: S'all good!
♚ OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT: Super-detailed gore might squick me? Like, injury/gore being A Thing is fine, just like ~lingering loving descriptions~ could maybe be a problem. I'm not even sure, it's never been an issue before.
♚ TRANSLATION FUCKERY: Spellings noted! o7
